Follow-Up to the 2008 World Wetlands Day Community Meeting

Melinda Taylor, Clinical Professor at the University of Texas, School of Law introduced three students from her Environmental Law Clinic: Brad Smith, Virgil Ochoa, and Bina Reddy. They presented their research on impacts of the oil & gas industry, how the industry is regulated, and some basic principles landowners could consider when either entering into an oil & gas lease on their property, or when dealing with a company in the event the surface owner does not own the mineral rights.

Ken Shaw, of the Cypress Valley Navigation District and Beverly Allen, of the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District, gave presentations on the history of Giant Salvinia on Caddo Lake and the efforts that the community has undertaken to fight its encroachment.
